Where is Home?

DOCUMENTARY | 30 MIN | 2026

In chaotic Mumbai city invisibilized migrants work day and night on their bicycles, dreaming of earning enough money to visit their hometowns during the festive season. The film probes into themes of invisibility, migration, belonging, and the city as a living character, raising the question : Where is home? Is it the place you now inhabit, or the one you left behind?

"Every day, thousands of people migrate like flocks of birds from villages and small towns, weaving themselves into Mumbai city’s pulse. In the film, we follow three such individuals whose livelihoods depend on bicycles in a city that is not intrinsically built for them."

"Though Mumbai takes a lot from them, it puts food on their plates. But is ‘roti, kapda aur makan’ (bread, clothing & shelter) sufficient to live, or does one need more than that? The city’s aspirational development plan does not consider them in its growth to match Western ideas, catering instead to the most affluent classes travelling by cars, metros and planes."

"The city lacks cyclable roads, but migrants ride their bicycles every day. It doesn't offer them homes, yet they find space to sleep. Like shadows, they traverse Mumbai's labyrinth roads as invisibles without fanfare. No headlights, number plates, identities, or horns — just a "tring-tring" moving through Mumbai."

"Through the eyes of our three characters, we explore how the cycle becomes more than just a means of transport; it shapes their identities in a place where they, like their bicycles, exist at the bottom of the urban hierarchy."
